Songwriting Compositions: Ms. Conway’s Music Class

I am so pleased to share the final products of our songwriting project in Ms. Polster and Ms. Nellie’s classes. Students were asked to write songs about being a “bucketfiller,” which means spreading kindness and positivity to others. The work they produced is at a very high musical level!

Here are the steps we followed to write our songs:
1.) Choose a meter for the lyrics of the song. The meter could be duple or triple.
2.) Write 4 phrases of lyrics with rhyming words that fit within duple or triple meter (all students did this step beautifully – they showed understanding of the difference between duple and triple and made their lyrics fit within that rhythmic context, all on their own!)
3.) Sing a melody for your lyrics and agree on one version as a group.
4.) Choose a mix for your background instruments using HookPad on the website www.hooktheory.com (a free program, check it out at home!)

Here are the finished products, great job 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders!
