Greetings Howe School Families,
Welcome back! We hope you all enjoyed a safe and healthy summer break. We are looking forward to another great school year! I would like to introduce myself
I am both excited and honored to join the Howe community. I am very passionate about education and I look forward to partnering with you to provide our students with the highest quality education possible. As a parent of four, I recognize the importance of a strong home-school connection. Parents are every child’s first teacher and I believe that by working together, we can ensure that your child becomes a lifelong learner with essential skills for a successful future.
Before joining Howe, I served in a variety of teaching and educational leadership roles over the past 14 years with Dearborn Public Schools. Some of the roles I have held include classroom teacher at the elementary and middle school levels, counseling at the high school level, assistant principal at the high school level, Principal of Snow Elementary, Director of Human Resources and Director of MBCC campus (CTE, STEM MS, Magnet HS, and DCMST).
Here are some important events that are happening the first weeks of school.
- Friday, August 23, 2024, from 12:00-1:30 pm we will be hosting our Open House at Howe.
- Monday, August 26, 2024, is the first day of school. 11:30am dismissal.
- Tuesday, August 27, 2024, is the first full day of school.
- No school on August 30, 2024- September 2, 2024.
- September 3, 2024 school resumes. This is an early release Tuesday. Dismissal is 1:50pm.
As the district has already announced, we will be have aligned start and end times for all of Howe- 8:25am – 3:20pm with breakfast served from 8:00am-8:20am daily. This change allows us to maintain our mission and commitment to remaining one School, with one mission, working in collaboration because TOGETHER we are all BETTER! The safety of our students will always be the priority so we will need to adhere to our new arrival and dismissal procedures:
- All Special Education programs will have the same drop-off and pick-up procedures as in previous years.
- Grades K, 1, and 2 will use the door 18 (same door as in previous years)
- Grades 3-5 will use door 20. (Door closest to Ann Arbor Trail faces Warren Ave. Security will be outside for support)
*If you have students that belong at both drop-off points. You may drop all students off at the oldest child’s drop-off location.
I will work closely with the Howe staff to ensure that every child at Howe finds academic and social success. As a team, we will work collaboratively to make sure our students are exposed to quality instruction that is both engaging and challenging. You will also find me in the hallways, classrooms and on the playground getting to know your children.
Ms. Tammy Fournier and I will work together to support all of Howe. Ms. Fournier will serve as the direct administrator for all special education programs while I work to support the Montessori classrooms. We are super excited to start this school year and we look forward to seeing you all at Open House!
Sincerely,
Amal Alcodray
