Thank you for taking the time to explore our school. We offer a unique learning environment with a facility that is home to programs for students with special needs from pre-school to age 26 and a K-5 Montessori school -one of only a handful of public Montessori schools in Michigan.   We like to describe Howe as “the little school that could”. We are a friendly, small school that offers high-quality education and a chance for all students to flourish. We have an excellent, dedicated staff, and an involved parent body.

Our Montessori students receive instruction through a method of education that promotes and embraces individualized instruction for children, a mixed grouping of students, personalized learning goals, and a prepared environment that uses specialized teaching materials in a structured curriculum that carefully blends both the Montessori and Dearborn Public School curriculum.

In addition to the Montessori Program, Howe School houses special education programs for students with Severe Multiple Impairments, Severe Cognitive Impairments, and an ASD Preschool. Students in these programs receive daily instruction in the general education curriculum using research-based practices, curriculum scaffolds, and skillful use of assistive technology to promote communication and application in a variety of functional contexts.

Howe School is designated as a fragrance-free environment. Thank you for not wearing cologne, aftershave lotion, perfumed hand lotions, or fragranced hair products when visiting our school community.

In the Classroom

Howe School staff works with students and their families to support student success in reading, writing, and math while also focusing on building independence and social skills that will prepare them for life beyond school.

Our special education programs for students with Severe Multiple Impairments, Severe Cognitive Impairments, and our ASD Preschool receive instruction in the general curriculum using the Essential Elements of the Common Core Curriculum which is aligned with our Outcome Based Scope and Sequence.
